The following is a detailed walkthrough to install shutter and ensure its running properly.
Any version specific build of shutter will work on all subversions. For example, the 1.16.5 build will work on 1.16.1 to 1.16.5
¶ MultiMC
- Download, unzip, and setup MultiMC https://multimc.org/#Download
- Use the following instructions to install fabric on MultiMc
- Open the install folder, and open the
modsfolder, if it does not exist, create it.
- Download Shutter from our downloads page https://studioarchetype.net/shutter/download
- Download Fabric API from their curseforge https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/fabric-api/files
(Optional)Install Optifine
If you want Optifine you must download optifine and its fabric wrapper, optifabric from their respective pages:- Download Optifine https://optifine.net/downloads
- Download Optifabric https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/optifabric/files
(Recommended)Install Focal Engine
Focal engine is a powerful wrapper for minecraft that adds additional shader and resource pack functionality. It is made by our partner, Continuum Graphics and can be downloaded for free from their website
- Place all your downloads into the
modsfolder
- Run the Instance
¶ Vanilla Launcher
In order to install Shutter on the vanilla minecraft launcher, you must have already installed the vanilla launcher, and have created and ran the 1.16.X version you wish to use shutter with.
The Fabric installer jar will require you to have Java 8 or above already installed on your system
Make sure the vanilla launcher is closed before you begin the installation process.
- Download the Fabric Installer from their website https://fabricmc.net/use/?page=installer
- Run the installer, selecting the target minecraft version, ensuring the install path is where your launcher is located on your system (it should auto detect), and check the box to create a new profile in the launcher for the fabric install.
- The Mojang Launcher should now have a new profile for fabric, which can be viewed in the profile dropdown, or in the installations tab.
- Open the install folder, and open the
modsfolder, if it does not exist, create it.

- Open the Mojang Launcher, and click
¶ Archetype Launcher (Coming Soon)
- Download and install the Archetype Launcher from our website here
- Sign in with your Archetype Account (Email Magic Link) or your Microsoft account.
- Select Utilities on the left navigation bar, and then select Shutter.
- If you already own shutter, use the launch checklist to select which optional components you want to install, such as DOF, optifine, Focal engine, and more, then click Create instance.
- The instance will automatically configure, install and launch when ready.
